The First International Scientific Conference of Thai Scholars “Readings in memory of B. N. Melnichenko and S. E. Trifonov” took place on May 20–21, 2021 at St. Petersburg State University. The Conference was held with the support of the Honorary Consulate General of the Kingdom of Thailand in St. Petersburg. Due to the epidemiological situation, the event was held in a mixed (face-to-face and online) format.
The Readings are characterized by the wide geography of their participants. The conference was attended by students and post-graduates from Russia and Thailand, teachers and staff of St. Petersburg State University, Moscow State University, Moscow State University of International Relations, High School of Economics, The Gorky Institute of World Literature, University of London, as well as major universities of Thailand (Thammasat, Mahasarakham, Kasetsat, Ubon Ratchathani).
The researches presented during the Readings, cover a fairly wide range of issues on the languages, history, literature and culture of Thailand and Laos. This collection published upon the results of the conference provides articles on the researches presented.
